Assessment of the Authorship of Dominik Skutecký’s Works / Lecture by a Restorer and Chemist

As part of the project “Restoration and Research of Dominik Skutecký’s Paintings,” 20 works were examined, 9 of which were disputed regarding authorship. The research team consisted of experts from three institutions – the Central Slovak Gallery, the Slovak National Gallery, and the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic. The lecture will cover how the laboratory workspace at the SNG looks, what methods are used in the examination of artworks, what can be revealed that is not visible to the naked eye, and how to approach the assessment of authorship. All this will be presented using specific examples of the examined paintings. The speakers will be restorer Miroslav Slúka and chemist Stanislava Trginová (SNG – Zvolen Castle) for the exhibition “This (Is Not) Skutecký.”
